About Me

I’m Gianna Capra, a producer, writer, and director. I have worked in the Chicago independent film world for nearly a decade and I recently moved out to Seattle.

Who am I? I suppose the best way to know that would be to look at my mindset. Here are the pillars that keep me moving forward.

Keep going. Just keep going. Over the last few years, I’ve been shut down more times than not, by both myself and others. Though I can’t say I’m alone in feeling this way, if you’re reading this you can probably say the same. I’ve struggled in ways that aren’t pretty or artistic, but I’ve kept going. Even if it’s very slow, even if it’s in the wrong direction, I’ve kept moving. The worst thing I think a person can do is be stagnant. And as a woman in this hawkish line of work, I’ve developed a strong resilience, confidence, and a very thick skin.

Protect your creativity. While I’m assertive and able to weather how aggressive this industry can be, I have learned something equally important. A thin skin on the inside is just as crucial as a thick skin on the outside. I believe my creativity is sacred and something to be safeguarded.

Patience. This thing doesn’t happen overnight. Taking the time to understand my goals and how to best reach them is key to building a long and sustainable career. Failing, badly, then learning to overcome is more important than selling out to make it by a certain age.

If you have a collaboration idea or just want to connect - I would love to hear from you!
